Samuel Pagán

Biography

 Dr. Samuel Pagán, from Puerto Rico, is an ordained minister of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and Dean of Hispanic Programs at the Center for Biblical Studies in Jerusalem (CEBJ). His academic work has been extensive, which has allowed him to edit several Study Bibles, as well as write over seventy-five books and hundreds of articles on exegetical, theological, and pastoral topics. In addition, he has been the Puerto Rican scholar with a widely esteemed prominence in the complicated ministry of Bible translations, and one of the most recognized and appreciated Latin American scholars, both in academics and in the church.

Among his most widely published and commented works are: Jesus of Nazareth, King David, Introduction to the Hebrew Bible, and Commentary on the Psalms. These books highlight not only Dr. Pagán’s intellectual capacity and theological depth, but they also reveal his firm commitment to the local church. His administrative work has allowed him to serve in the Bible Societies as director of translations for the Americas, and also as president, dean, and professor of several institutions of higher theological education in Puerto Rico, the United States, Latin America, Africa, Europe, and the Far and Middle East. His pastoral ministry has been in Guaynabo and Bayamón, Puerto Rico, and in New York and Miami, USA.

As Dean of Hispanic Programs at CEBJ, Dr. Pagán promotes, organizes, and leads study trips to the Holy Land, Europe, and the Mediterranean Sea. He currently lives alternately in Orlando, Florida, and Jerusalem, Israel, with his wife, Dr. Nohemi Pagán, with whom he has two sons (Samuel and Luis Daniel), two daughters-in-law (Yasmin and Ileana), three grandsons (Samuel Andrés, Ian Gabriel and Mateo Alejandro), and a granddaughter (Natalie Isabel).
